Please email steven@marsaalam.com to book a course or rent equipment at Royal Tulip Beach Resort.

( OUR TOP RECOMMENDATION )

This huge lagoon stretches a kilometre along the coast and 700 metres out from the beach, with ample space for kite surfers of all levels and perfect for picking up fast speeds whenever there is a favourable wind which is almost every day in Marsa Alam.

An inviting sandy beach stretches along the lagoon for five hundred metres and you'll find the waters crystal clear.

Whether you've come to learn or to compete with friends you'll find experienced professionals on hand to help you and kitesurfing lessons are offered for both beginners and advanced.

There's also a choice of kites, depending on wind conditions, from 5.5 square metres up to 14 square metres and also made from different materials; as well as wet suits for the winter season.

The three instructors and two beach boys speak English, German, Italian and Arabic and always look forward to welcoming new or repeat customers, whether highly experienced or just beginners.

2. EL NAABA LAGOON NEAR EQUINOX EL NAABA HOTEL.

A deep water lagoon about 30km north of Marsa Alam town, 30km south of Marsa Alam airport and 1km south of Al Naaba Equinox Hotel. It's separated from the open sea by a coral reef.  The water is normally flat but a little choppy when the wind is strong.

There is Giant Bay suitable for the experienced and experts and Baby Bay a little further to the south with its' super flat waters which is better for beginners and those wishing to perfect more complicated moves.

There are kite surfing lessons and guidance available for all levels of experience - please contact Steven at steven@marsaalam.com

3. LAHAMI BAY

Here, some 140km south of Marsa Alam town, the reef forms a large lagoon (around 2 X 3km) which makes for perfect flat waters which are mostly of wadable depth.  Entrance to the lagoon is from a sandy beach so there's no difficulty in access.  The water though normally flat can be a little choppy when there is a strong wind.

Advanced kitesurfers might like to explore the deeper waters and the mangrove shorelines while beginners are advised to follow closely the advice of their instructors and to keep to the lagoon.

During July and August water levels drop making the area available for kitesurfing restricted to a narrower channel area.

There are kite surfing lessons and guidance available for all levels of experience - please contact Steven at steven@marsaalam.com

4. BLUE LAGOON NEAR THE SETTEMARICLUB VILLAGE

Situated some 20km north of Marsa Alam town.  The reef is fairly close to the shore slightly restricting the area available but the bottom is sandy and the water usually fairly flat although choppy when the wind is strong.

WHAT DOES A KITE SURFING
LESSON INVOLVE ?

A four day course is sufficient for a complete beginner to become a safe and confident kiteboarder.  The initial instruction session usually involves practising with a small trainer kit on land.  Do bear in mind that lessons do depend on local weather and sea conditions and so it might not always be possible to complete a course on consecutive days.

HOW TO PACK YOUR KITING STUFF FOR MARSA ALAM

First check with your airline about the size and weight limits for your carry on bag and then, assuming you have a reasonable weight limit, put as much of the heavy stuff in it as you can including your fins, your spreader bar and your bar if it can be squeezed in.

Second, check the weight limit for your in hold luggage and then pack everything else into it.  You might be able to get two surfboards and two kites in a bag and still not go over the 20kg limit - but always check.

Oh, and don't forget to padlock your in hold luggage. You don't want any risk of anything going missing !

WHAT CAN I DO ON ANY NO WIND DAYS ?

How about a trip to the famous Dolphin House ? Check our our Dolphins page.

Or an excursion to Luxor - but do try to book a day or so in advance !  More information here.
