KITESURFING IN MARSA ALAM

Kitesurfing is easy and a great experience. Don’t be put off by video shots of professionals doing amazing stunts. The basics are fairly straightforward and you will be able to learn them in just a few days and then you will be able to enjoy the sport from the very first day of your next holiday.

Marsa Alam is a perfect location for it.  Why ?

REASONS TO CHOOSE MARSA ALAM

1. Relatively flat seas but with a high proportion of windy days each month, especially from March to May and from July to September.

2. The Red Sea has the warmest average water temperatures of any open water sea in the world, great in summer and still very mild in winter.

3. Beautiful reefs form some great natural barriers to create perfect flat water within large lagoons.

4. Between 360 and 365 days of sunshine a year with an average of almost 11 hours a day.

5. Crystal clear waters allow you to judge the sea depth.

6. Enjoy the fantastic background of the immense Sahara desert.

2. EL NAABA LAGOON

Near Three Corners Equinox Resort

A deep water lagoon about 30 km north of Marsa Alam town, 30 km south of Marsa Alam airport and 1 km south of Three Corners Equinox Resort. It’s separated from the open sea by a coral reef.  The water is normally flat but a little choppy when the wind is strong.

There is Giant Bay suitable for the experienced and experts and Baby Bay a little further to the south with its’ super flat waters which is better for beginners and those wishing to perfect more complicated moves.

There are kite surfing lessons and guidance available for all levels of experience – please contact Steven at steven@marsaalam.com or via WhatsApp on +201284332337.

3. LAHAMI BAY

Here, some 140 km south of Marsa Alam town, the reef forms a large lagoon (around 2 X 3 km), which, when wind speeds are light or moderate, makes for near perfect flat waters, mostly of wadable depth. Please note however that the water can be a little choppy when there is a strong wind.   Entrance to the lagoon is from a sandy beach, so there’s no difficulty in access.

Advanced kitesurfers might like to explore the deeper waters and the mangrove shorelines while beginners are advised to follow closely the advice of their instructors and to keep to the lagoon.

During July and August water levels drop making the area available for kitesurfing restricted to a narrower channel area.

There are kitesurfing lessons and guidance available for all levels of experience – please contact Steven at steven@marsaalam.com or via WhatsApp on +201284332337.

4. BLUE LAGOON NEAR BY HOTEL DREAM LAGOON BEACH

Situated some 20 km south of Marsa Alam town.  The reef is fairly close to the shore, slightly restricting the area available but the bottom is sandy and the water usually fairly flat although choppy when the wind is strong.

WHAT DOES A KITESURFING HOLIDAY INVOLVE ?

A four day course is usually sufficient for a complete beginner to become a safe and confident kiteboarder.  The initial instruction session usually involves practising with a small trainer kit on land.  Do bear in mind that lessons do depend on local weather and sea conditions and so it might not always be possible to complete a course on consecutive days.
