There was free WIFI available in the main reception area, but, at the time of writing (7 March 2021,) a WIFI connection in the rooms appeared to be an optional extra (please check here for Port Ghalib Resort and here for Siva Port Ghalib) – however don’t worry you can always order a sim card on arrival at the airport via the sim card page. There’s also an ATM cash machine on site as well as all the usual services you might expect of any reputable resort including a 24 hour front desk, currency exchange, dry cleaning, room service and storage for left luggage.
1. SIVA PORT GHALIB
At first glance Siva Port Ghalib appears, as of 8 March 2021, to have a poor ranking on TripAdvisor since it only comes 5th out of 5 hotels in Port Ghalib ( no change on when we last checked in May 2019 and February 2018 ). However all the hotels in Port Ghalib have far higher ratings than the average for the Marsa Alam region. Back in March 2017, when TripAdvisor was still ranking Port Ghalib hotels as part of the greater Marsa Alam area, Siva Port Ghalib had a very respectable ranking at 22nd out of 75 hotels, placing it in the top third of reviewed hotels where the competition is intense.
Ratings on TripAdvisor have remained encouraging, with no sign of any decline in standards, As of 8 March 2021, 85.8% of reviewers rated it as either ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ (the highest rating attained so far) and just 5.0% as either ‘poor’ or ‘terrible.’ You can make a comparison with the previous dates that we checked the data in the table below but please note that the figures for 2016 and 2017 were approximated to the nearest percentage point.
TABLE 1 – SIVA PORT GHALIB TRIPADVISOR RATINGS
|Date||% v. good or excellent||% poor or terrible|
On HolidayCheck Siva Port Ghalib’s recent performance is even more impressive at an average of 5.1 out of six stars, as of 8 March 2021, with new highs for most categories, including rooms at 5.5 (up from 5.3 in May 2019), service at 5.4 (up from 5.1), location also at 5.4 (up from 5.3) and sport and entertainment at 5.2 (up from 4.9). However, the rating for gastronomy was relatively disappointing, dropping to 4.3 from 4.4. However, it’s possible this might have been partly due to the difficulties of providing the usual vast choice of fresh and cooked food if the resort was only operating at partial capacity, due to the circumstances of the pandemic. However, overall the results were impressive and the percentage of Holidaycheck reviewers recommending the resort rose to 90% from 89% in May 2019. You can see the full data for each date we have checked the resort’s ratings on Holidaycheck in the table below.

2. PORT GHALIB RESORT
Unfortunately we only have this year’s reviews for the resort on Tripadvisor and Holidaycheck but at least they don’t disappoint. The resort was ranked 2nd of the five prestigious Port Ghalib hotels by Tripadvisor, even though the percentage of reviewers rating the resort as “very good” or “excellent” was slightly lower than for Siva Port Ghalib at 82.3% and the proportion rating it as either “poor” or “terrible” fractionally higher at 7.5%. This might be due to the number and quality of its reviews during the last year, the overwhelming majority of which gave the hotel either four or the maximum five star ratings.
Similarly, you will find that the current ratings (as of 8 March 2021) for Port Ghalib Resort are a little lower than for Siva Port Ghalib on Holidaycheck, see the table below. However, again this might not necessarily indicate that Siva Port Ghalib is currently better than Port Ghalib Resort. When one considers both Port Ghalib’s clear advantage of holding the second position on Tripadvisor against Siva’s Port Ghalib’s more impressive overall performance in the ratings on Holidaycheck, it’s difficult to reach a definite conclusion. Both resorts seem to have an excellent reputation.
