59 MARSA ALAM HOTELS RANKED ACCORDING TO THEIR WIFI SCORE

Please note that, as of April 2026, a number of hotels have significantly improved their WiFi ratings since the publication of this report, so until we are able to update the data here which was based on the February 2025 figures, please check your resort’s WiFi ratings on Booking.com or elsewhere before making a decision. However, even if your resort has a good rating, we highly recommend obtaining SIM cards on arrival at the airport for internet connection outside your resort. More info here.

One of the biggest frustrations facing many tourists in Marsa Alam is not being able to get a decent hotel WiFi connection. For a few people, who want to enjoy a holiday while keeping their smartphones locked away – no sharing of photos on social media – no checking Instagram or Facebook – no resorting to GPS tracking – that might not seem like a big deal. But for others it can literally ruin a holiday.

Hotels in Marsa Alam are all located a long way from large urban areas, so if a resort’s WiFi sucks it’s not usually easy to find any alternative nearby WiFi hotspot. That’s why I thought it would be interesting for anyone thinking of visiting Marsa Alam to see how different hotels rank for WiFi, especially as there are huge differences between the ratings, and even some expensive hotels with excellent overall ratings have surprisingly low ratings for WiFi performance.

To find the data used in the hotel WiFi ratings tables below, I relied mostly on Booking.com data for 26 February 2025, though for a few hotels where the data from Booking.com was not available or insufficient, I relied on WiFi ratings data from TopHotels.Ru, also as of 26 February 2025. The TopHotels.Ru publishes its ratings with a maximum score of 5, so this needed to be doubled so it could be mathematically equivalent to the Booking.com score. However, TopHotels.Ru reviews may be calculated in a different way from Booking.com, as only a given proportion of the total ratings are made by tourists with some from travel agents also included.

When looking at the ratings table below, you need to realise that, while they are derived from the only publicly available indication I’m aware to guide visitors, they need to be interpreted carefully and with caution. You should also bear in mind that different people are likely to use the internet in different ways, and your usage requirements may effect how efficiently any hotel WiFi system works for you.

How well the ratings reflect the reality can depend on many considerations, including how the average ratings are calculated, the total number of reviews (higher is better), how many of those reviewers rated the hotel’s WiFi (with Booking.com ratings this is unfortunately not indicated), how recent the reviews are (this is best discovered by visiting the relevant booking.com page on the link provided) and how genuinely objective most reviews are (this can only really be assessed cautiously by reading some of them for yourself).

Please also note that the few TopHotels.Ru ratings included (where indicated as a source) might be calculated in a different way from Booking.com, as only a given proportion of the total ratings are made by tourists with some from travel agents also included. However, whereas Booking.com does not indicate the proportion of all reviewers rating the hotel WiFi, TopHotels.Ru does, to its credit, give a figure, which is given in the table.

Due to the differences between the two rating systems, I have relied wherever possible on just the Booking.com ratings, as many of the hotels they list have a high number of ratings, and also because, while TopHotels.RU has a fascinating and very useful rating system, Booking.com still seems to be the more popular hotel search platform for European visitors. I’ve also used Booking.com data for the rating of each hotel overall, which is listed immediately after the WiFi rating.

Ratings have a maximum score of 10. These figures are derived from the only available public information on WiFi ratings that I’m aware of but they should be read with caution. Please read all the notes above to understand some of the issues around interpreting the data. I hope the data is interesting and helpful, but inevitably, the past opinions of reviewers, even when they are all genuinely objective, don’t always accurately represent the current reality, so you might find your own experience differs from that indicated. However, by sharing your own experience on Booking.com, providing you have booked a room through them, you can help to improve the reliability and relevance of the data.

The far right hand column headed ‘relative WiFi category ranking’ gives the ranking for the WiFi category for each resort relative to the resort’s six other Booking.com category rankings for staff, facilities, cleanliness, comfort, value for money and location. This shows how well the WiFi was rated compared to the hotel’s other categories.
