LOCATION

Currently Lahami Bay Beach Resort is the southernmost hotel of any size on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, near the small town of Berenice and about a 2.5 hour drive (185 km) south of Marsa Alam Airport.

The resort sits on a private bay with over 3km of sandy beach and a few hundred metres from the shore, there’s a coral reef that runs parallel to the beach, acting as a natural shield against the waves. This unusual topography creates calm, crystal-clear waters—perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and exploring the vibrant marine life right off the coast while also affording those who are interested opportunities for wind surfing, kiting and scuba diving.

ROOMS

220 in total arranged in two-story buildings, surrounded by the resort’s gardens and providing impressive views of the sea, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the location’s natural beauty.

ROOM FACILTIES

The usual – in other words each has a balcony or terrace with a sea view, a sitting area and a bathroom with a bath tub and separate toilet cubicle.   As you’d expect there’s also air conditioning, satellite television, a mini-bar, a safe and a hair dryer.  However each room  is at least a little different as each has a “unique a set of original paintings portraying traditional themes from the Sahara.” (see the hotel website for details)

HOTEL FACILITIES

Surprisingly for a hotel of moderate size, Lahami Bay Beach Resort has two restaurants (the main Seven Seas restaurant and the ASIA restaurant serving far eastern dishes) as well as the Mangroves Cafe for casual dining and drinks by the sea shore.

As usual there’s a separate children’s pool and play area and a games room (for all ages) as well as billiards on offer, but less usual for this area there’s also a library with a collection of books in different languages for anyone seeking a quiet refuge.

A windsurfing centre is located just to the south of the resort where there is a wide range of equipment available and instruction offered for beginners.   Divers will be happy too as several first class dive sites and popular shipwrecks lie a short boat journey away off shore.  There is also a diving centre to give advice, offer trips and also internationally recognised courses (PADI and CMAS).

BOOKING.COM

Lahami Bay Beach Resort has enjoyed a steady rise in its guest ratings over recent years. On Booking.com, its overall score climbed to a “very good” 8.5 out of 10 as of 17 May 2026, up from 8.4 in June 2025 and 8.2 in September 2024.

Although the specific category breakdowns for the various hotel services and facilities are not currently visible online as of May 2026, the hotel’s higher overall score of 8.5 suggests it is performing better than ever. I’ve listed below the resort’s rankings for the various categories on Booking.com as of June 2025 and it’s reasonable to assume that these ratings would likely be even higher today if Booking.com had listed them.

  • staff 9.0
  • cleanliness 8.6
  • location 8.5
  • comfort 8.5
  • facilities 8.5
  • value for money 7.6
  • free wifi 7.5

Note how this is one of only a few resorts where, not surprisingly, location scores really well and on a par with the other excellent ratings the hotel achieved for staff, cleanliness, comfort and facilities. However you might also notice that, as in many other resorts, the Free WiFi, as of June 2025, was slightly weaker than other categories. It’s very likely that the WiFi service is being continually improved but in such a remote area you might consider buying a SIM card for calls and internet at the airport on arrival not only so as to have an alternative connection to the hotel’s WiFi available just in case you might need it, but also to use outside the resort. Check out the sim card information page.

I was actually surprised the location rating is not higher as it is one of those rare, special properties where the natural surroundings truly steal the show.
