Tucked into one of the Red Sea’s most enviable natural alcoves, the Brayka Resorts complex remains a cornerstone of the Marsa Alam hospitality scene. Renowned for its unique, sheltered coastline that offers calm swimming conditions even when seasonal winds pick up, the bay serves as a magnet for both underwater enthusiasts and for those simply seeking to escape the crowds for a more relaxed pace of life by the sea.

The two adjacent resorts of Brayka Bay and Royal Brayka, which flank either side of the bay, exist not as rivals but as a singular, collaborative experience. The BraykaResorts.com website emphasizes that leisure and recreational facilities are “accessible for all guests, no matter which resort they are staying in”. This reciprocal access is a key selling point for the complex, allowing a guest at the older Brayka Bay property to access the modern gym or water slides at Royal Brayka, and vice versa.

Opened in 2011, the Royal Brayka Beach Resort, located on the southern side of the bay, was designed to modernize the complex’s offering. Its atmosphere is more contemporary, and its facilities are specifically tailored toward families and larger groups seeking a luxurious but reasonable value holiday. The rooms here focus on a sleek, modern feel that appeals to travelers looking for an even higher standard of comfort (compared to its older northern neighbour) while retaining the signature Brayka charm. While Tripadvisor, as of 10 April 2026, states the resort has 467 rooms, the hotel’s own website BraykaResorts.com cites the number as 321. They are divided into at least four types.

Standard amenities include a private balcony or terrace, a safety deposit box (often free of charge), satellite LCD television, and a telephone. Bathrooms are generally equipped with a shower and a hairdryer. A minibar is provided in each room, though consumption is typically subject to an additional fee, except for bottled water which is often provided daily.

ROYAL BRAYKA ROOM FACILITIES

The rooms at Royal Brayka are likely to offer even better finishings and facilities than those at the original Brayka Bay property. Standard features include central or individually controlled air conditioning, a balcony or terrace, and modern LCD TVs with satellite channels. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers, hairdryers, and a suite of amenities. Each room includes a minibar fridge, a safety deposit box, and a direct-dial telephone in both the bedroom and bathroom. Some rooms also offer tea and coffee making facilities, a perk less commonly cited for the standard rooms at Brayka Bay.

Brayka Bay occupies a prime piece of real estate approximately 45 km south of Marsa Alam International Airport. For those looking to explore local urban life, the small dormitory transit town of Marsa Alam is situated just 17 km to the south, allowing visitors both to enjoy the resort’s tranquil isolation on Egypt’s Eastern Desert coastline while being able to travel independently should they need to.

The two adjacent resorts are built around Marsa Brayka Bay, a natural coastal inlet spanning 1,300 metres of coastline characterized by sheltered waters, extensive sandy beaches, and vibrant house coral reefs that serve as a primary draw for the European diving and leisure markets.

The Marsa Brayka house reef is one of the most significant draws for international tourists. The bay’s unique topography allows for easy access from the shore, which should be welcome news to less experienced swimmers and snorkelers, while the bay area is comprised of two outer coral reefs that are home to an impressively diverse array of marine life. Green sea turtles are frequent visitors.

For the more adventurous, including experienced divers, the onsite Brayka Divers Centre offers daily boat trips and overnight excursions to legendary sites, such as Elphinstone Reef. There are also a helpful professional team based at the centre, which is easily accessible to guests staying at either resort, as well as decompression facilities located just five minutes away at DECO Shagra.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS & EXCURSIONS

For seamless great value airport transfers and excursions to Luxor, Aswan or El Quseir, Steven’s Taxis is a highly-regarded local operator. Book via steven@marsaalam.com or WhatsApp at +20 102 999 9978. No deposit is required; simply pay on arrival after receiving your email confirmation.

SHARED FACILITIES

The two resorts combined function as a self-contained village, boasting an extensive array of amenities, with all guests enjoying full access to the water slides at the Mega Pool. The expansive grounds feature a large main pool—heated during the winter months—and safe, shallow children’s pools. Active guests can utilize two tennis courts, table tennis, mini-golf, a football pitch, and a fitness center. For a local touch, horse and camel riding are available along the shore.

The Marsa Brayka house reef is the crowning jewel, offering easy wade-in access to two vibrant coral reefs teeming with turtles and tropical fish. For the more adventurous, professional underwater exploration is managed by Brayka Divers, who organize trips to the famous Elphinstone Reef. And for those in search of a more laid back experience, the comprehensive health spa provides massage rooms, a sauna, a steam bath, and a beauty salon.

Families with children benefit from Mini Clubs (ages 6–12), a playground, and professional babysitting services. There is also a vibrant animation programme with folklore shows in the on-site amphitheatre as well as a disco, games room, and a TV room. Practical needs are met via retail shops, an ATM, a doctor-on-call, a round-the-clock front desk and a currency exchange, while Astro Tours provide expert-led desert stargazing with professional telescopes.

Designed with an energetic family focus, Royal Brayka centers on the impressive “Mega Pool,” where water slides provide endless entertainment for all ages. Dining is curated for variety and volume: Fleming’s offers international buffet themes and live show-cooking, while Layalina serves Oriental flavors—buffet-style for lunch and a-la-carte for dinner. For a structured evening, Views provides a sophisticated Arabic set menu.

Between the Mega and Infinity pool bars and the afternoon treats of ice cream and popcorn at La Plaj, the resort caters to every whim. Notably, the Balcony Bar never sleeps, serving as a 24-hour sanctuary for non-alcoholic refreshment and quiet conversation.

The Zest Buffet Restaurant serves as the culinary heart with daily changing themes, complemented by two promenade gems: Gamberini, specializing in Mediterranean seafood, and Tamara, which focuses on Arabic delicacies. Guests can enjoy a formal cocktail at Tiffany’s lobby bar, a casual drink at Sailor’s Beach Bar, or a refreshment at the Blues swim-up pool bar.

Internet connectivity: While lobby Wi-Fi is likely to be free, according to Expedia.com and Hotels.com there might be a surcharge for in-room connectivity. If WiFi is important for you check with your tour provider or the hotel directly (see contact details below) to confirm whether this information about charging is currently correct, and should you need WiFi access wherever you happen to be, including while on excursions outside the hotel, then consider purchasing and picking up a SIM card at the airport. This can easily be arranged by email. More info here.
